Youth Emotional Support worker review
Having joined the Esteem Dream team (family) over 18 months ago, all I can say is it was the best job I ever had and I would still be there today if it wasn’t for the fact they do not have a Esteem branch in Nepal (Yet!!).
Working as a Youth Emotional Support (YES) Worker was one of the most rewarding posts I have had the pleasure of experiencing. Young adults are currently suffering the highest mental health crisis in the last 10 years, with self-harm and eating disorders being the top symptoms for those between 14-26years old.

As a YES worker you are there to support these young adults to make sense of overwhelming feelings and emotions in a positive and constructive way. Although a very different dynamic to counselling or therapy, there is a therapeutic element of this YES worker relationship with the young adults.
Not one size fits all!! Being able to work holistically within the Esteem team, offers a wider range of services that can provide support to access different areas of need to promote young adults to thrive. This unique aspect of Esteem is what makes the job so rewarding. What Esteem does well is promote well being for its staff and therefore model this aspect of life as an essential part of living healthily.

With any aspect of youth work there are going to be areas of difficulties and I would not be truthful if I did not highlight these as well. I worked with some very traumatised young adults and those who found it incredibly difficult to communicate their feelings and emotions. However you are not doing the job isolation, there is the best team around you to support you to do this difficult role, so that’s what I did. Ask, talk, suggest and promote whatever you need to do the YES worker job to do the best of your ability you need to lean on the Esteem Dream Team.
